Complexity and Scope of the position
Reports to the Environmental Services Manager and performs a variety of housekeeping duties to ensure the
Long Term Care Home is maintained in a safe, clean and sanitary condition.

Key Activities
Regulatory Compliance:
Keep work area clean and free from unsafe conditions. Report any unsafe conditions to immediate Supervisor.
Observe all fire and safety rules and be on alert for the safety of the residents, staff and public.
Works in a safe manner which abides by Occupational Health and Safety policies.
Operational and Administrative Systems:
Clean dining room, bedrooms, bathrooms, lounges, activity areas, offices, hallways, stairwells and other areas
as directed.
Ensures privacy of residents during performance of duties.
Clean, mop, wax and polish floors; dust furniture and equipment; arrange furniture in an orderly fashion.
Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, urinals and telephones daily. Operate a floor machine to buff dining rooms,
bedrooms, lounges, corridors and office areas.
Collect and dispose of garbage as required; keep utility rooms and store rooms in tidy and sanitary condition.
Notifies manager when supplies are low or equipment is malfunctioning.
Attend in-service education sessions, staff meetings, workshops etc. as directed by the Environmental Services
Records all Maintenance deficiencies in the Maintenance Book
Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality Management, safety and infection
Perform other related duties as required.

Previous housekeeping experience desirable but not mandatory.

A minimum of public school education is required. Must be able to read and write and follow oral instructions.
Skills & Abilities:
Must be mature and possess good communication. Must be in good physical and mental health.

Special Requirements
Must possess initiative and judgement.
Must have aptitude for working with the elderly
Constant standing and walking. Turning, stooping, bending and lifting, moving equipment and performing
other related tasks. Finger and hand dexterity to handle instruments and equipment. Visual and hearing acuity
to detect problems in the work area.
Must be able to give and receive directions, both orally and written in the English language.
Works indoors in well lighted, well ventilated areas. Exposed to heat, humidity and noise. May be subject to
cuts and strains.
