Complexity and Scope of the position
Reports to the Environmental Service Manager/lead hand and performs various laundry duties associated with
providing residents with the required laundry service.

Key Activities
Regulatory Compliance:
Observe all fire and safety rules and be alert to the safety of residents, staff and public.
Operational and Administrative Systems:
Sort and separate items to be laundered in accordance with laundering requirements.
Keep the clean and soiled linen/laundry separate at all times.
Operate automatic washing machines, dryers, iron and sewing machine.
Hand iron and folds or hangs garments after laundering.
Transport laundered garments to appropriate floors.
Ensure proper identification of all personal clothing.
Maintain a clean work environment, dusting and washing equipment and shelves as required
Perform simple mending and repairs.
Maintain appropriate level of supplies e.g. soap, bleach, fabric softener and thread.
Clean working area upon completion of the shift.
Operate all equipment in a safe manner
Communicate to immediate supervisor re: damaged or discarded products
Qualifications

Experience:
Experience in laundry operation is desirable but not mandatory. Must understand the basis of good laundry
techniques/practices.

Education:
A minimum of public school education is required. High School education preferred. Must be able to read and
write and follow oral instructions.

Skills & Abilities:
Must be mature and possess good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and
diplomacy in dealing with residents, other staff and visitors. Must be in good physical and mental health.

Special Requirements
Must possess initiative and judgement.
Works indoors in well lighted, well ventilated laundry. Exposed to heat, humidity and noise. May be subject to
burns and strains.
Constant standing and walking. Turning, stooping, bending and lifting, and performing other related tasks.
Finger and hand dexterity to handle instruments and equipment.
